Morphy Game: Develop with Threats

Chess Question:
Can you find a way to threaten Re1 to pin the queen to the king?

Chess Question:
Why would black be losing if he moved Kd8?
Coach’s Hint:
Look for white moves that attack the Black King
on d8. Once you find the correct move, check
CPR to see how black would respond to this
threat.

Why do we need to develop with threats?
Get your pieces, both knights and bishops, out as soon as possible and try to make a threat. The more
pieces you get out the more attacking options you will have. The final position shows what will happen if
you leave your pieces home to sleep during a battle.

Move 16 Answer:
White is threatening Qg5+ to bring more pressure on the Black King.

Move 17 Answer:
White is threatening the Black Queen. If Black moves the queen to safety, white will checkmate with Re8#.
