Group Lessons

These group lessons are available with our club membership. The first visit is free – no membership required. Private lesson students for our coaches may attend one lesson per week. Pawn members may come twice per week, and Knight and King members may come as many times per week as they like.

Beginner Course - Mondays @ 6:00pm

Coach Camden Lemond instructs the weekly Monday lessons for beginners at Complete Chess.

Coach Camden has several years of chess experience, and is the primary writer of the curriculum used in all of Complete Chess’ after school programs.

This course is tailored for students who are new to chess, perhaps also without any tournament experience. Students will be taught the rules of chess, special tournament rules such as the touch-move rule, how to take chess notation, use of the chess clock, and sportsmanship.

Students will also familiarize themselves with common patterns used to checkmate the opponent and win pieces.

Coach Jeremy Hernandez instructs the weekly Wednesday lessons for beginners at Complete Chess.

Coach Jeremy teaches at several schools around the north and northeast side of San Antonio, and has placed first in his section for two different tournaments.

This course is tailored for students who are new to chess, perhaps also without any tournament experience. Students will be taught the rules of chess, special tournament rules such as the touch-move rule, how to take chess notation, use of the chess clock, and sportsmanship.

Students will also familiarize themselves with common patterns used to checkmate the opponent and win pieces.

Intermediate Course - Tuesdays @ 6:00pm

Coach Greg McClung instructs the weekly Tuesday lessons for intermediates at Complete Chess.

Coach Greg is rated over 1500 USCF and regularly plays in tournaments.

This course is tailored for students who are familiar with the basic rules and strategies, perhaps with some tournament experience.

Students will learn principles and strategies commonly used in chess games, as well as how to convert advantages into wins. They will also see a live game where these concepts are put into practice.

Intermediate Course - Thursdays @ 6:00pm

Coach Blake Herrera instructs the weekly Thursday lessons for intermediates at Complete Chess.

Coach Blake is rated over 1800 USCF and has over 8 years of tournament experience. He uses the Socratic method to train students to ask good questions during their own games.

This course is tailored for students who are familiar with the basic rules and strategies, perhaps with some tournament experience.

Students will learn principles and strategies commonly used in chess games, as well as how to convert advantages into wins. They will also see a live game where these concepts are put into practice.

All Levels Course - Fridays @ 6:00pm

Coach Alex Fernandez instructs the weekly Sunday lesson for all levels at Complete Chess.

Coach Alex enjoys the social aspect of playing chess. He regularly challenges his friends, and is always happy to help someone learn the concepts and strategies.

This course is tailored for students of any level, with any level of tournament experience.

Students will also familiarize themselves with common patterns used to checkmate the opponent and win pieces. They will also learn practical concepts to gain advantages, and convert those advantages into wins.
