Blake is a USCF-certified chess tournament director, and usually runs the Saturday Scholastic tournaments at Complete Chess. His teaching experience includes holding private lessons for children and adults alike, instructing the weekly group lesson on Thursdays, and being the lead coach of chess camps and several after-school programs around the NISD area. His input helped to shape the curriculum used in Complete Chess’ after school programs, and he even trains new hires to learn to present the material.
Blake knew nothing about chess until high school. He fell in love with the game and ended up graduating from John Jay as the highest rated high school player in San Antonio for 2015. He is still an active tournament player and loves breaking down the game to a science. He is even the president of the chess club at UTSA, where he pursues his bachelor’s degree in computer science with a concentration in data science. His goals for the future are to build a strong chess community with other colleges around Texas, and host competitive intercollegiate tournaments.
