Thursday Group Lesson (Intermediate)
Thursday, January 23, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 6:00 pm on Thursday, repeating indefinitely
Coach Blake instructs the weekly Thursday lessons for club members (click here to sign up) at Complete Chess. These are tailored towards intermediate level players, who typically have some basic knowledge about the game and perhaps some tournament experience. After the lesson, students typically stay and play against each other.
A group lesson typically consists of: 1) Puzzles, in order to create recognition of patterns that frequently recur in chess. 2) A live game where the coach explains the strategies that are useful in competitive games. 3) An interactive lecture over a famous game which highlights important points of principle to consider during a match.
In addition to learning the best strategies, students will become prepared for competing in chess tournaments. They will learn about use of the chess clock, how to notate a chess game, special tournament rules such as the touch-move rule, as well as good sportsmanship.
Parents can learn how to sign their child up for a USCF chess membership, learn how to track their child’s rating and progress, and learn about books, websites, apps, and other resources that will supplement their child’s chess education.
